I couldn’t sleep at all last night, don’t know why..  So I left the hotel at five am., went to the Bus Station, it was six, but couldn’t find any direct transportation to the Monastery, and I was told to go to Adwa (the one that witnessed a famous battle with the Italians), and from it to the Monastery..  When I got to Adwa about 7.00, someone came to me after leaving the car, asked me about my destination, and he told me that there are no public buses that go there, and I would have to rent a car for 400 Birr!  Yesterday I did pay a lot in visiting the historical places in Axum..  And I had to take care how to spend the money..  I bargained till the amount reached 300 Birr..  Then I found one of the people that was with me in the car talking in English with me, and telling me that he was from a village near Debre Damo beside the Monastery..  And he’s going there today..

لم أستطع النوم على الإطلاق في الليلة السابقة، لا أعلم لماذا..  فتركت الفندق في الخامسة فجراً، وذهبت إلى محطة الأتوبيس وكانت الساعة السادسة، ولم أجد أي مواصلة مباشرة للدير، وقيل لي أن أذهب إلى "عدوة" (وهي التي دارت فيها معركة شهيرة مع الإيطاليين)، ومنها إلى الدير..  عندما وصلت إلى عدوه حوالي السابعة، قابلني أحدهم بعد تركي العربة، وسألني عن وجهتي، وأخبرني أنه لا يوجد أي أتوبيس عام يذهب للدير، وعليَّ تأجير عربة خاصة بـ400 بِر!  كنت قد دفعت بالأمس مبلغ كبير في زيارات الأماكن التاريخية في أكسوم..  وكان عليّ أن أحرص كيف أنفق المال..  فوصلت معه إلى مبلغ 300 بِر..  ثم وجدت أحد الذين كانوا معي في العربة يتحدث معي بالإنجليزية، ويخبرني أنه هو من قرية "ديبرا دامو" بجوار الدير..  وهو ذاهب إلى هناك اليوم..

 

 

God arranged that person for translation and looking with me for an appropriate transportation..  As the Language at that area starting from Aksum is the Language of the Tigray Region, which is “Tigrinia Language”, and not the Amharic Language..  I noticed that that Language is closer to Arabic, as it has some letters that are not in the Amharic Language, like: Ein, Hah, Kha..  (not in English either)..  I had no idea about that Language other than the numbers in Tigrynia..  I asked that person about the possibility of finding another way to go to the Monastery that is less costly than renting a car, he didn’t know..  As he didn’t get out of that area much, and he lived for a while in one of the Ethiopian cities when he was studying, now he’s teaching Law in one of the Universities, and he came here today to supervise the work of some students that are doing some training after graduation..  He told me that there is a Bus Station, but it has nothing for the Monastery, and the only thing I can do is to rent that car..  I told him: Saint Taklehaimanot brought me here, and He’ll arrange the right thing..  We went to the Station, and asked about the bus, and we found it  :)  He smiled saying: You must be Orthodox..

أعدّ الله هذا الشخص ليتولى الترجمة والبحث لي عن مواصلة مناسبة..  حيث أن اللغة في هذه المنطقة بداية من أكسوم هي لغة منطقة تيجراي وهي لغة "تيجرينيا"، وليست الأمهرية..  وقد لاحَظت أن هذه اللغة أكثر شبهاً بالعربية، حيث يوجد بها حروف غير موجودة في الأمهرية، مثل: ع، ح، خ..  وليس لديَّ أي معلومات عن هذه اللغة سوى الأرقام باللغة التيجرينية..  وسألت هذا الشخص عن احتمال وجود مواصلة أخرى أقل تكلفة من تأجير عربة خاصة، فلم يعرف..  حيث لم يخرج من المنطقة كثيراً، وقد عاش فترة في أحد المدن الحبشية عندما كان يدرس، وهو الآن مدرس في إحدى الجامعات لمادة القانون، وقد أتى هنا اليوم ليباشر بعض أعمال الطلبة الذين تحت التمرين بعد التخرج..  وقال لي أنه يوجد محطة أتوبيس، ولكن لا يوجد بها شيء للدير، والاحتمال الوحيد هو العربة الخاصة..  قلت له: الأنبا تكلا هيمانوت هو الذي أحضرني إلى هنا، وهو الذي سيُحضِر الشيء المناسب..  ودخلنا المحطة، وسأل على الأتوبيس، ووجدناه :)  فابتسم قائلاً: يبدو أنك أرثوذكسي..

He sat with me in the Bus till it started loading passengers..  And we talked a lot..  Then he had to leave the car to start working first in Adwa..  And he asked one of the other passengers to tell me when we get to the Monastery..  God arranged it that that other person speaks English too..  The car moved at about nine, and it took more than three hours in a hard dusty unpaved road..

جلس معي في الأتوبيس فترة حتى بدأ في تحميل الركاب..  وتحدثنا كثيراً..  ثم كان عليه أن يترك العربة ليبدأ في مباشرة عمله بداية من "عدوة" أولاً..  ثم طلب من أحد الركاب الآخرين أن يخبرني عندما نصل إلى الدير..  ودبَّر الله أن يكون هذا الشخص يتحدث الإنجليزية أيضاً..  تحركت العربة في حوالي التاسعة، واستغرق الطريق أكثر من ثلاثة ساعات، في طريق ترابي صعب غير ممهد..
