After that a boy came to me telling me in English that here only Deacons enter, I told him that I am one, and showed him the permission, to show him to a monk.. After the prayer I was surprised by finding a monk coming out from the Holy Altar, and pushes me out of the church in a rough way..!
بعد هذا جاءني ولد يتحدث إنجليزية يخبرني أنه يدخل هنا الشمامسة فقط، فأخبرته أنني شماساً، وأريته التصريح ليريه لأحد الرهبان.. وبعد الصلاة فوجئت بأب راهب يخرج من الهيكل، ويُخرجني خارج الكنيسة بعنف..!
I tried to convince him that I am Christian, and showed him the permission letter, the boy was trying to translate.. Everybody gathered around.. I learned later that this place was never visited by foreigners before.. Even no Ethiopians come to the Monastery except those living around the Monastery only.. That father or another refused to let me into the church, and of course not to take any photographs or anything.. I told them about the permission from the Patriarch, and then from the Metropolitan in Addis Ababa, then from the Gonder Diocese Office.. Then I asked them to call the Ethiopian Patriarchate to make sure.. The monks and others were mocking me.. And no one understood what was going on.. At least I didn’t get anything!!
حاولت إقناعه بأنني مسيحي، وأريته التصريح، وكان الولد يحاول الترجمة.. والتف الجميع حولنا.. علمت بعدها أن هذا المكان لم يأته أي أجانب من قبل.. بل حتى لا يأتيه أحباش سوى المقيمين في المنطقة المحيطة بالدير فقط.. رفض الأب أو غيره أن يسمح لي بدخول الكنيسة، وبالطبع ليس بالتصوير أو غيره.. فأخبرتهم عن أن التصريح من البطريرك، ثم من المطران في أديس أبابا، ثم من مكتب إيبارشية جوندر.. ثم طلبت منهم أن يقوموا بالاتصال بالبطريركية الحبشية للتأكد.. وسط تهكم الرهبان والمحيطين.. ولم يفهم أحداً ماذا يحدث.. أو على الأقل لم أفهم أنا شيئاً!!
Then another young man came, he could speak English a little bit better, I tried to inquire about what was going on, and by my insistence, they said they are going to call another father to ask him, that father came, and that same scenario was in vain.. They just refused everything.. And that there is no use for the Diocese Office’s permission, nor to that from the Patriarchate!! I asked to meet the Abbott of the Monastery, they told me he was not present, I asked them to call him.. They said he has no phone, and they don’t know where he was!!
ثم أتى شاب آخر يتحدث الإنجليزية بصورة أفضل، وحاولت الاستفسار عما يحدث، ومع إصراري قالوا أنهم سينادون أب آخر لسؤاله، وأتى الراهب الآخر، ودار نفس السيناريو العقيم.. ورفضوا تماماً أي شيء.. وأنه لا قيمة لتصريح مكتب الإيبارشية، ولا حتى لتصريح البطريركية!! وطلبت مقابلة رئيس الدير، الذي قالوا أنه غير موجود، فقلت أن يتم الاتصال به.. فقالوا لا يوجد معه تليفون.. ولا نعرف مكانه!!
I didn’t get the aim of that whole situation at all.. And in each and every single moment I was thinking that something would happen to solve the problem.. As I have seen during my whole stay here in Habesha, of many strange coincidences and divine arrangement by the intercessions of St. Takla Himanot.. But what I have seen here is that I was treated as a totally rejected person.. Finally I asked them to tell me about the place of anyone in charge of the Monastery, so I go there to him with any of the monks or even one of the attendants to take permission from him.. After lots of trials, I learned that he is staying in Makseniet village, one and a half hour from the Monastery, it is the one I passed by while coming here.. Everybody refused to come with me, then I made it clear I’ll pay all the costs.. One of the monks asked: “How much are you gonna pay!!!!” It was a totally strange situation from A to Z..
لم أعرف ما الهدف من هذا الموقف على الإطلاق.. وفي كل لحظة كنت أظن أنه سيحدث شيئاً لحل هذه المشكلة.. كما رأيت خلال فترة وجودي كلها هنا في الحبشة من الصدف العجيبة والتدبير الإلهي بشفاعة القديس تكلا هيمانوت.. ولكن ما رأيته أن كنت أُعامَل كشخص مرفوض تماماً.. وأخيراً سألتهم أن يخبروني عن مكان أي مسئول عن الدير، لأذهب له مع أي أحد من الرهبان أو حتى الموجودين لأستأذنه.. وبعد محاولات علمت مكانه في قرية مكسيميانت التي تبعد حوالي ساعة ونصف من الدير، وقد عبرت عليها خلال طريق مجيئي للدير.. ورفض أي أحد المجيء معي، وأوضحت أنني سأدفع التكاليف.. فسأل راهب: كم ستدفع!!!! كان موقفاً غريباً من الألف إلى الياء..
I found no solution, then I took the name of the one in charge, and asked how to find him, thanked them and left.. I couldn’t believe what just happened, how or why?! I felt extreme sadness.. Admonished Saint Takla Haymanout, not for a present familiarity, I can’t claim that I had a special relationship with Him in Egypt.. But from what I have seen here in Ethiopia of Him interfering in many situations.. And what I touched vividly, to an extend that when I write it here I feel that it is made up!! And from its level of occurrence and its repetitions.. I asked how He lets something like this happen, and why.. I had a feeling like as if the Abbott will come any time to the Monastery now and fix this.. or anything.. But nothing happened.. And that was what happened, we narrate it as it was..
لم أجد هناك حلاً، فأخذت اسم المسئول، واستفسرت كيف أجده، وشكرتهم وذهبت.. ولم أصدق ما حدث لتوه، وكيف، ولماذا؟! وشعرت بضيق شديد.. وأنا أعاتب القديس تكلاهيمانوت، ليس عن دالة موجودة، فلا أستطيع أن أدعي أنني كنت قد كوَّنت علاقة شخصية معه في مصر.. ولكن من خلال ما رأيته في إثيوبيا من تدخله في مواقف كثيرة.. وما لمسته بصورة واضحة، لدرجة أنه عندما أكتبها هنا أشعر وكأنها مؤلفة!! من درجة حدوثها وتكرارها.. وسألته كيف يسمح بهذا الأمر، ولماذا.. وكنت أشعر أنه قد يحدث مثلاً أن يعود الرئيس إلى الدير الآن ليُحَل الموقف.. أو أي شيء.. ولكن لم يحدث شيئاً.. وكان هو ما حدث، نحكيه كما هو..
